What's good in UNIQLO
I've been living in Uniqlo basic pieces this Summer, so I thought it was only apt to capture my thoughts in writing...
If you follow me on socials you may have seen I’m a big fan of the Uniqlo vest tops with the built-in bras. They actually make lots of different styles, so I popped in recently to try a few on and review them -
Rewind to 2023, my first purchase was in Tokyo, when I visited the 12 storey flagship store and stocked up on the viral Uniqlo bum bag as presents. I also got an AIRism vest top in white. I still wear it - a lot, but mainly as underwear, under a shirt or knit.
I’m frequently asked about sizing in this range - I wear medium which equates to a size 10 (34 inch bust) and it gives really good support. I would suggest using the Uniqlo sizing guide, they have one in store and online and looking at your bra size rather than your dress size for accuracy.
On the same trip I also got two of the wireless 3D bras. I swear by these now, I can’t believe how comfy they are - they give the best shape ever, uplifting but still a little sexy and supportive without the uncomfortable underwire. I hope they create a strapless version soon.
Now onto the built-in bra tops:
The OG - The Ribbed Cropped Sleeveless Bra Top
Contrary to the title, this isn’t that cropped so don’t let the description put you off…
On me (I’m 5”7) it finishes on the waistline and there is just enough fabric - about 2cm for me to tuck it in, although I often leave it out as it finishes nicely on the waist.
I honestly cannot get enough of this top, I wear it all the time, and what I like most is not just the comfort, but it’s got a really flattering neckline, not too high, just the right amount of scoop and it’s a really nice shape around the arms showing just enough skin to look elegant rather than like I’m off to the gym. The built-in bra gives such a nice shape around the bust, much nicer than any strapless bra IMO.
They always introduce new colours so just check the website for their seasonal shades, but black and white are generally available all year round. I originally got black and now have white and a really nice dark teal blue.
The Open Neck Halter
Again - so nice. The cut of this is lovely, as the built-in bra allows for a slightly lower back than if you were to wear a halter neck top and strapless bra underneath. It’s also in the sale at the moment, so a good time to buy a couple. If you have a warm skin tone, the bright orange is really nice for the Summer.
The Halter Neck Sleeveless Bra Top
I tried this on in store, it’s longer than the cropped one, and to me the cut is a lot more formal - you could probably wear it to work in an office. It’s cotton but feels like it’s knitted and the neckline is a little higher than the cropped version. I’d go for this if you need to wear something that feels less casual and more put together.
AIRism Cropped Bra Tube Top
I tried this on in store in white and I really like it. Out of all the styles this is the most cropped - on me. I think it’s great for holidays or for evenings when you want a bandeau style. It comes in olive green, black and white and I like how it has adjustable straps so you can wear it as a vest top, crossed over at the back or strapless.
Not tried on but intrigued - The Washable Knit Sleeveless Bra Top
This one looks like it would be ideal for the autumn months layered underneath a jacket. It’s available in more muted colours like this rich wine shade along with a dark teal and brown. A good choice if you want a smarter option.
Uniqlo X Princess Tam Tam Gingham Range
The gingham range is just so cute. I went in recently to try a few pieces on and walked away with a pair of shorts and trousers. Like the halter necks these are also in the sale at the moment. The fabric is so lightweight, perfect for holidays , when it’s hot hot or when you’re working from home.
In the shorts I tried on the pale pink, lemon yellow and navy and went with the navy as I felt the check print had the most contrast.
In the trousers I wanted a fun colour so chose the pale pink but it was a close call between the pink and the olive green, which I really liked as well.
If you’d like to shop any of the above I’ve saved it all on a link here
What are your Uniqlo favourites or are there any items you’d like me to try next? If so, let me know in comments 😊
